The Japanese government will introduce export regulations this spring aimed at controlling the use of advanced semiconductor technology for military purposes, in a move widely interpreted as targeting China. Approval from the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry will be required to export certain products and technologies covered by the regulations, according to the Japan Times, citing several government sources. The move comes after Japan and the Netherlands agreed in late January to join the US in controlling chip exports to China, although the proposed new Japanese regulations do not explicitly mention China, the outlet noted.
